Postgraduate Coursework

The School of Education offers an intensive preservice postgraduate coursework degree for intending secondary school teachers, and numerous postgraduate coursework degrees designed for educationalists who wish to study at an advanced level to enhance their professional development. Below you will find information about the programs currently offered by the School of Education. Preservice Postgraduate Teaching Programs

  • Master of Teaching - an accelerated preservice secondary teacher education program specifically designed to support students in their transition into first year teaching and to nurture future leaders of the profession.
  • NOTE: The Graduate Diploma in Education will not have any future student intakes at UNSW. All future students intending to study a postgraduate initial teaching qualification must apply for the Master of Teaching.

Master of Education & Graduate Certificate in Education Programs

  • Flexible delivery including online, school holiday intensive and evening classes.
  • Affordable study with Commonwealth Supported Places for eligible students.

Our Master of Education programs are designed for educationalists who wish to study at an advanced level to enhance their professional development. The programs offer a range of specialist studies for educational professionals, including qualified teachers, trainers in industry and commerce, and adult educators. Students will gain substantial knowledge and a range of skills related to their field of education.

Postgraduate Educational Leadership Programs

  • Master of Educational Leadership - a program designed to provide aspiring and current educational leaders with an understanding of recent developments in theory, research, policy and practice in educational leadership.
  • Graduate Certificate in Educational Leadership - a program designed to provide aspiring and current educational leaders with a short and flexible program which enables them to access recent developments in theory, research, policy and practice in educational leadership.

Combined Postgraduate Coursework Programs

  • Master of Arts & Social Sciences (Combined) - an interdisciplinary combination of programs which allows you to combine the Master of Education or Master of Educational Leadership with other Masters level programs offered by the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.  You graduate with two Master level degrees under their specialist names.
  • You can choose to combine your Master of Education or Master of Educational Leadership with the following programs - Master of Arts in Applied Linguistics; Master of Arts in International Relations; Master of Arts in Interpreting and Translation Studies; Master of Development Studies; Master of Journalism and Communication; Master of Policy Studies; Master of Public Relations and Advertising.
  • You can also choose to study two different Master of Education Specialisations in your combined Masters.  Rules relating to this specific combination can be found on the appropriate University Handbook page.

Other Postgraduate Coursework Programs

  • Graduate Certificate of Teaching - a program suitable for qualified teachers who wish to teach an additional subject. Students of this degree must have relevant studies in the specialty they wish to study.
  • Graduate Certificate in University Learning and Teaching - a program which focuses on the development of teaching capability in higher education. The program is designed to help both new and experienced University teachers develop a scholarly approach to teaching. Students of this degree must have relevant undergraduate studies and be teaching in higher education.
