The Gonski Institute for Education

The UNSW Gonski Institute for Education has officially launched. Based at UNSW’s Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, the Institute brings together scholars, policy-makers and practitioners to conduct research that will help improve academic and wellbeing outcomes particularly for disadvantaged students and those who live in rural and remote Australia.

Gonski 2:0: How will we support and value the profession?

Our fourth public lecture responding to the Gonski 2.0 report brings together a panel of research and industry experts to discuss the report's recommendations around support for teachers, professional learning, and retention of high quality educators in the profession. Chaired by Adrian Piccoli, UNSW researchers Dr Tracy Durksen and Dr Tony Loughland will join Centre for Professional Learning Director Kathy Deacon and Daceyville Public School Principal Michelle Hostrup in articulating a way forward.

Gonski 2:0: How will we equip every student to grow and succeed in a changing world?

Our third public lecture responding to the Gonski 2.0 report will bring together a panel of research and industry experts to discuss the report's recommendations around curriculum and assessment. Join us for a conversation with Professor Adrian Piccoli (UNSW), Professor Chris Davison (UNSW), Ms Lyndall Foster (NSW Education Standards Authority), Dr Karen Maras (UNSW) and Mr Robert Randall (ACARA).

Gonski 2.0: How will we empower and support school leaders

Our second public lecture responding to the Gonski 2.0 report will bring together research and industry experts to discuss the report's recommendations around leadership, particularly how we provide school leaders with high quality professional learning. Chaired by Adrian Piccoli, UNSW researchers Dr Scott Eacott and Dr Richard Niesche will join school leaders with experience in the government and non-government sector.

Our first public lecture responding to the Gonski 2.0 report. Featuring Gonski Institute for Education Director Adrian Piccoli, joined Professor Chris Davison, Head of school at the UNSW School of Education, and Finnish education expert Pasi Sahlberg, the newly arrived professor of education policy at the Gonski Institute for Education, for a conversation on the opportunities and challenges the report presents for the future of Australian education.
