Commerce/Education
The Dual degree program, Bachelor of Commerce/Bachelor of Education (Secondary) is a four-year program (192 UOC) for intending secondary school teachers. The program is a nationally accredited pre-service qualification.
Students combine studies in two single secondary teaching specialisations from the BCom. The program covers both theoretical and practical aspects of education, including 80 days supervised professional experience in at least two different secondary schools.
Teaching Specialisations
This program requires students to study two single methods to prepare them for their secondary teaching specialisation(s). Methods available to students undertaking the dual Commerce/Education program in 2013 are:
- Business Studies
- Economics
Honours
High achieving BEd students may apply for entry to Honours. Honours is an additional year of study (two years part-time) which allows a student to further explore the field of Education. Career Opportunities
The Education program at UNSW prepares graduates to pursue a career in secondary school teaching in New South Wales, Australia and overseas. Other career options include policy development and leadership within schools or supervisory, corporate training, customer relations and managerial roles in a variety of industries.
Professional Experience
Teaching practice is undertaken in at least two different secondary schools under the supervision of experienced teachers, and is complemented by an innovative program of community engagement. English Language Requirements
Proficiency in English is essential in all Education courses. It is expected that all applicants will have a Higher School Certificate minimum Band 4 in Standard English, English as a Second Language or Advanced English, or an overall IELTS score of 7.5, with a minimum of 8.0 in Speaking and Listening and a minimum of 7.0 in Reading and Writing, or the equivalent.
